Ahhhh, here it is. My full collection of Austin Kleon books. It’s so nice to be inspired by someone who’s still alive, because you get to experience their evolution in real time. I first read Steal Like an Artist in 2012 for a college class called “Concepts in Contemporary Art”. Since reading it, I’ve created several blackout poems and taken his advice through all my creative endeavors. But I’ve changed quite a bit in 5 years.
In 2012 when I read, “VALIDATION IS FOR PARKING”, I thought nothing of it. I didn’t even remember it until I searched the web for Austin Kleon quotes that would make me feel v*lidated. 18 year old Eva was pretty confident, as are most teenagers who have yet to be broken in by the Real World. Side note: one day I’ll discuss the bullshit of Real World mentality. Not today. Now, I’m eager to give Steal Like an Artist a reread, but not until I finish Show Your Work. And you can bet I’ll post photos of my exploration through the journal.

Here’s a blackout poem that I likely never would’ve done if not for Mr. Kleon. Ohhh yeah, check out those rusty black hues. Thanks, iPhone filter!
